ON Semi opens 13,000-square-foot Czech design center

ON Semiconductor Corp. opens a 13,000-square-foot R&D and design facility in the town of Roznov to expand its operations in the Czech Republic. According to ON Semiconductor, the design center is specialized in developing energy efficient power solutions for use in computers, televisions, battery chargers, notebook, white goods and LED lighting and wireless applications.

The center is located on ON Semi’s existing campus in Roznov, in the Czech Republic’s Zlín region. The campus was a legacy Motorola site that On Semi took when it spun off from Motorola in 1999. What’s more, the Roznov campus features a 6-inch wafer fab, a silicon wafer production facility and business operations support teams. Recently, the number of design center employees has expanded from 12 to more than 100.

The design center houses are high tech laboratories which covers more than 3,000 square feet. The building was constructed with power efficient heating and cooling systems, including several innovative energy recuperation systems. Both ON Semi and the Czech government have made financial investments in the company’s R&D, manufacturing and business support operations in Roznov and nearby Brno.
