The OLED Opens up a New Way for the Liquid Crystal Panel

The LCD television is predicated as the most influential product in 2012, but the loss of world’s liquid crystal panel has been lasting for six quarters. The loss of Sharp was 350 million in the year of 2011, which had broken the record for hundreds of years; Samsung and LGDisplay changed the related leaders respectively. Samsung has taken its liquid crystal department apart and integrated with its SMD Company.

2012 will become the year that the world’s liquid crystal industry changes most. The large-sized panel, high definition, LED backlight and the ultrathin screen is permeating, which will become the driving force for this industry. One thing to be mentioned is that the AMOLED will become the direction in the future; even it will become the savior. OLED has so many advantages, such as spontaneous light, high contrast, wide angle, short response time, wide temperature range, simple processing procedure and so on. The scale of the AMOLED market is smaller than LCD, but it has large potential. The yearly growth rate of AMOLED market is expected to be 29% from 2011 to 2015, which will be higher than LCD.

IGZO is another new technology. Compared with the TFT liquid crystal panel, it has lower power consumption and shorter response time, higher brightness and resolution. Sharp will introduce this kind of panel to its 10th production line. It is reported that the mass production of IGZO liquid crystal panel is at the beginning of this year. The application to the tablet computer is the focal point in the beginning. It will be applied to the large-sized LCD television and AMOLED panel in the future.

The traditional liquid crystal panel will reduce its capacity after the panel industry’s returning to large size and new panel. So the price of panel will stop declining.
