The Wireless Communication Uses TV White Space Spectrum

Neul and its partner Carlson had released the commercially wireless communication system to use the TV white space spectrum. It is named RuralConnect and designed to provide broadband communications with a bandwidth of 16Mbit/s on each available vacant TV channel. For realisation of white space technologies, this is a major milestone.

White space radio makes use of unused TV channels as we switch from analogue TV to digital TV. Signals in these frequencies can travel long distances and will penetrate walls. The typical nationwide 3G networks operate with a mere 30MHz of spectrum, but their cost is high. The space spectrum is up to 150MHz of high quality. What is more important, it is free of charge. The straight technical specifications are important for the white space systems, which can be used to stop interference with television equipment and wireless microphones. Neul’s technology can meet these conditions.

The commercially wireless communication system can be used to deal with the effects of multipath interference signals. To be used by the operators who are responsible to offer broadband over wide areas, the operators must deal with reflections from building and hills. If it is influenced by multipath signals, the radio links will become unreliable. A line of omnidirectional and sectoral, high-gain, base-station antennas is also launched by Carlson, which is designed for TV white-space broadband.
