Toshiba is a world leader in technology. It is specialized in manufacturing electrical and electronic products. Information and communications equipment and systems, electronics components and material, power systems and industrial equipment, consumer products are included in its product archive.
A free software tool has been released by Toshiba, which is designed to design and test the embedded motion control applications built around ARM Cortex-M3 motor control microcontrollers. This software is named MoterMind which is in keeping with Toshiba’s TMPM37x family of microcontrollers. These MCUs are ideal for a hardware vector engine and programmable motor drive outputs. The digital storage oscilloscope function of the software’s graphical user interface can give ‘snapshots’ of internal motor parameters at critical points during system operation. The view into the MCU vector engine can be offered by the oscilloscope function.
With the MotorMind, designers are able to configure motors without recompiling firmware. The motor can be run with the new settings as soon as the parameters set via the GUI are transferred directly to an evaluation board. It only takes an hour to achieve the customised set-up of the motor. Different kinds of views, such as a speed and torque display, a‘statistic view’and a CPU load monitor, are provided by the software. The designers are able to observe in real time how modifying various motor control parameters effects motor behaviour and MCU performance during acceleration, operation at target speed, and deceleration.
The software tool is suitable with different motor applications for it has the storage and loading function. The efficient and accurate field oriented control of fans, pumps and compressors are important for industrial and home appliance which also can use Toshiba’s TMPM37x ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller family.
