A range of rugged and high voltage tolerant RS485/RS422 transceivers has been introduced by Linear Technology, which can eliminate field failures. The other costly external protection devices are not needed. Exceed absolute maximum ratings of typical transceivers can be caused by the installation cross-wiring ground voltage faults or lighting in practical RS485. The ±60V overvoltage fault protection of the LTC2862-2865 is able to protect bus pins during operation and power shutdown. The LTC2862-2865 tolerates any voltage within ±60V without damage when the circuit is transmitting, receiving signal,hence robustness of any typical RS485 network can be increased.
The fast 20Mbit/s and low-EMI slew-rate-limited 250kbit/s data rates are available with low power family. A variety of RS485/RS422 applications, such as industrial control, instrumentation networks and automotive electronics, are provided by the LTC2862-2865 family. The LTC2862-2865 devices can work under harsh environment; because an extended ±25V input common-mode range and full failsafe operation improve data communications reliability in electrically noisy environments and in the presence of ground loop voltages.
These devices can withstand ±15kV with the enhanced ESD protection. Moreover, with fully symmetric receiver, the devices can keep good duty cycle symmetry.
