A Concentrator Photovoltaic Power Plant Built by Soitec

André Auberton-Hervé and Jean-Michel Lamure have created the Soitec in the year of 1992. Soitec is a French semiconductor manufacturer specializes in the production of Silicon-On-Insulator wafers. It is headquartered in Bernin, France. Soitec uses the Smart Cut technology instead of the previous SIMOX. Ninety percent of the SOI market is from the Smart Cut, and the Soitec represents about eighty percent of the Smart Cut market. Many famous companies are the clients of Soitec, such as AMD, Freescale Semiconductor, Mitsubishi Electric, OKI, IBM Microelectronics, Philips Semiconductors, Sony, Toshiba, and more.

A concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) power plant has been established by Soitec next to Durban, South Africa. This power plant is regard as the flagship project for the 17th annual Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This annual conference will be held at November 28 to December 9. This power facility will supply the power to COP17 conference. Soitec has built the power plant wit the Department of Water and Environment Affairs of South Africa and the local eThekwini Municipality.

It only takes one month to construct the CPV plant with the combination of Soitec’s international expertise and the local work force. Group five also supports the construction of CPV plant. CPV provides South Africa with huge potential for its natural resource and climate protection. It also supports the countries young but growing renewable-energy sector. As we all know, sustainable energy is a must for a sustainable future.
