Toshiba and EcoIsland Support Isle’s Project

The Isle of Wight, which is a model sustainable community to offer a high quality of life, is supported by Toshiba and EcoIsland. The EcoIsland was built in the year of 2011. It tries to use the advanced technology to gain a new socio-economic model. In order to secure self sufficiency in energy, EcoIsland will explore solutions that harness renewable energy and advanced technology. With the diverse technologies, Toshiba will support EcoIsland. With EcoIsland, people on the island are able to meet their needs with their own resources and achieve a sustainable community; therefore, they can live in closer harmony with nature.

The IOW is expected to become the first region in the UK to be both energy self-efficient and capable of exporting surplus energy generation to the mainland by the year of 2020. The IOW applies mix or wind, solar photovoltaic, tidal, geothermal and biomass renewable energy sources with Smart Grid technology. The other initiatives are explored by the EcoIsland to secure sustainability and enhance quality of life while reducing the cost of living, such as an alternative transport system that mixes hydrogen, electric and fuel cell vehicles. The IOW aims to be a socio-economic model for infrastructure development for communities around the world.

Toshiba tries to help evolve initial concepts and ambitions into firm capacity and to develop plans for the integration of IOW’s wind, tidal, geothermal and solar power resources in a Smart Grid network. The goal of EcoIsland matches with Toshiba’s objectives and capabilities. Toshiba has many experiences of Smart Community projects, which will enable it to fully contribute to securing the goals of EcoIsland.
