There are two LED driver introduced by the ON Semiconductor, the NCL30051 stage, power factor correction (PFC) and resonant half bridge driver and the NCL30160 dimmable constant current step-down (buck) LED driver. The NCL30051 is a step-down DC-DC converter/LED driver. The NCL30051 connects the critical conduction mode (CrM), PFC controller and a half-bridge resonant controller with a built-in 600 volt (V) driver, which is optimised for off-line power supply applications. At a fixed frequency, the chip’s half-bridge stage is available. Adjusting the PFC stage output can have the regulation. Moreover, the open feedback loop protection, plus PFC overvoltage and undervoltage detection mechanisms are combined in the device.
The NCL30160 is a switching regulator for high power LEDs. The NCL30051 feed the power to it, thus the constant current across the LED string can be provided. With the low 55mΩ internal mosfet and the ability to operate at 100% duty cycle, the 98% efficiency can be made. It is ideal for the industrial and automotive applications, because its voltage ranges from 6.3V to 40V. The operating junction temperature of NCL30051 and the NCL30160 ranges from -40 to +125 deg C.
