Toumaz devotes itself in low cost, ultra-low power wireless technologies for a wide range of markets. Recently, a global distribution agreement has been signed between Toumaz and Mouser Electronics, which is about the low energy wireless radio system-on-chip device. The chip of Toumaz is expected to broaden the market for its low power radio technology. Wireless sensor networks, smart meters and remote controls are the target markets.
The proprietary sub-1GHz low-power radio technology developed by this Oxford-based fabless chip company aims to create a general-purpose radio transceiver that runs off 1V using a single button cell battery. It consumes less than 3mW continuous use power, which is the lowest power spec for a
radio transceiver of this type. Toumaz tries to show this type of very low-power is not just an academic concept but a commercial product. There are also some other low-power radio protocols, such as ZigBee, Bluetooth and so on.
The TZ1053 Telran runs a proprietary sensor protocol by an 8051 processor. With a high gain antenna, or 20m from a PCB or chip antenna in a body-worn environment, the data rates of 50kbit/s with a range of 100m line of sight is available. The encryption and anti-hamming functions are also included. Like the devices, the kits and production RF modules are also developed by the distributor. They aim to the wireless sensor networks, remote controls, green energy solutions, smart meters and environmental monitoring markets. With this agreement, the customers are able to access to Toumaz’s technology.
