In order to improve power efficiency in real-time control and graphic systems, Freescale Semiconductor announces the asymmetrical-multiprocessing-platform which connects an ARM Cortex-M4 microcontroller and a Cortex-A5 processor together. Connecting the MCU and apps processor in real-time systems has so many advantages.
The development challenge of adding applications processing to a system designed for real-time control can be simplified with this platform. This is the first time in the family of embedded microprocessors (eMPUs) from Freescale. An inter-process communication (IPC) application programming interface (API) is provided by this company to support the hardware platform.
Customers can create differentiated applications with the hardware and IPC API, because the high high-level OS (like Linux) and RTOS (such as MQX) can communicate well with each other.
There will also be a software development platform, which is needed for real-time control and applications processing. Human-machine interfaces(HMIs)for industrial systems is the focus. Guaranteed determinism requires highly predictable response times for tasks, and processing attach much importance on efficiently processing pixels and displaying them on a screen. The solutions available until now have focused on one or the other of these processing needs.
Consequently, in order to make the real-time control and HMI connect together, the application developers need to create a full solution by connecting different pieces of silicon and developing software. The first industrial-focused eMPU products families based on the new architecture will be announced in the first quarter of 2012. Due to the new platforms are made for the automotive infotainment market, the detailed of the automotive device will be announced in the second quarter of 2012.
