Using the SOI (silicon-on-insulator) ABCD9-process technology, NXP’s KMA210 automotive-position sensor integrated the vendor’s magneto-resistive-sensor chip and a signal-conditioning ASIC, which is a magnetic angle sensor module.
KMA210 is designed for automotive applications. The device requires the measurement of a precise mechanical angle which is from electronic steering and active suspension to automatic headlight adjustment. The sensor can still work when temperatures as high as 160°C, which is ideal for EGR (exhaust-gas-recirculation) applications. The signal-conditioning ASIC design in ABCD9 boosts EMC performance as compared with that of previous sensor products with integrated ASICs. The device also has two built-in capacitors in the same package to decrease system cost, because it does not need PCBs or external filter components. Other features include contactless angle measurements as large as 180° and overvoltage protection. Prices start at $1.40 each.
