A range of multicore automotive microcontrollers is released by the Freescale Semiconductor, which is the most powerful MCU in the related market. Four times of the performance is provided by the Qorivva 32-bit MPC5676R MCU. Its memory space is double of the single-core MPC5566 MCU.
In the aspect of powertrain, the Freescale semiconductor aims to produce the most powerful and flexible MUCs. The MCUs are able to manage the entire complex control of a modern engine at the same time. Moreover, the customers need the tools and software which can produce the complexity of the systems. The 90nm, dual-core MPC5676R MCU owns 6Mbyte of on-chip flash memory, 384kbyte of on-chip RAM, three timing processor units and a 64-channel 12-bit analogue-to-digital converter.
Two parallel 180MHz 32-bit Power Architecture processors are included in the chip. There are comms peripherals for CANbus and FlexRay. The processor performance for the powertrain control applications is available wit the MCUs, including diesel, gasoline and natural gas engines and hybrid electric and plug-in electric vehicles.
The cooperating relationship with the car manufacturer makes the MCUs able to control the complex powertrain systems. The full run-time software solution, such as AUTOSAR MCAL driver suites and AUTOSAR real-time operating system for single-core and multicore MCUs, produces the Qorivva MCU. The development tools, such as compilers and multicore debuggers from Freescale development partners, also support the MCUs. Now, a new eTPU compiler, debugger and simulator support the MCUs. It is reported that the evaluation kits and samples of the MPC5676R MCU will be provided by Freescale in January 2012.
