The TDK, the world’s leading manufacturer of industrial power supplies, has developed the warranty of its EFE300-400M series of digitally controlled 300 to 400W power supplies from three to five years. Since its introduction in 2008, they are based on the product’s conservative design and field-reliability data.
Mainly used in medical and ITE (information-technology-equipment) applications, the devices have a 4-kV-ac reinforced input-to-output isolation of 1500V ac and comply with the rigorous international-safety standards of IEC/UL 60601-1 for medical equipment, thus, making them ideal for use in body and body-floating-type medical and dental applications. Regulated dc outputs of 12, 24, or 48V dc are standard, and other voltages are available. The 300 and 400W devices have footprints of 3×5 or 3.5×6.5 in., respectively, and 1.34- to 1.6-in., less-than-1U profiles. They offer 400W continuous power and as much as 475W peak power for 10 sec.
The supplies include a magnetic transformer, with the transformer and the inductor windings on the same core, to boost efficiency to typically 90%, and they adopt an 8-bit microcontroller for full digital control of the output and to handle housekeeping routines. The devices start to price at $164.42 (100).
