A differential probe for applications that require high sensitivity, wide dynamic range and minimal load on the DUT’s operating point has been developed by Rohde & Schwarz. High-speed interfaces are used in wireless communications and the electronics industry, in aerospace and defense, and also in medical engineering and differential probes are used to analyze the ground-referenced or differential signals used in these applications.
Differential clock signals require more than single-ended probes because the edge transitions must be assigned accurately to evaluate a measurement.
Probe sensitivity is crucial because small signal amplitudes are prone to interference and must therefore be tested thoroughly. The Rohde & Schwarz probes provide a typical noise of 3mV. The DC input impedance is 1MΩ and the input capacitance 0.6pF and these ensure that the load on the DUT’s operating point remains low. The dynamic range of ±5V even at high frequencies allows measurements on fast ground-referenced signals and prevents distortion. Offset and gain errors are low throughout the entire temperature range, which means that users do not have to interrupt their measurements for compensation or recalibration when temperatures vary.
The scope can be controlled from the probe via a micro button in the probe tip. Functions such as run/strop, autoset or screen dump can be assigned to this button. The probe tip also accommodates the R&S ProbeMeter, which delivers DC measurement results for common mode and differential voltage regardless of the base unit’s settings. The probes can be used with the R&S RTO and R&S RTM oscilloscopes and also to the Rohde & Schwarz spectrum and network analyzers by using the R&S RT-ZA9 probe adapter.
Rohde & Schwarz has stood for quality and innovation in test and measurement, broadcasting, secure communications as well as radio monitoring and radiolocation for more than 75 years. By pursuing this four-pillar strategy, the company addresses customers from various market segments: wireless communications, broadcasting, electronics as well as government authorities and organizations with security missions. The electronics group, with its headquarters in Munich, Germany, counts among the leading suppliers worldwide in all of its business fields. As a manufacturer of EMC test and measurement equipment as well as terrestrial TV transmitters, Rohde & Schwarz is the world market leader.
