Analog Devices (ADI)’s ADE7880 employs its latest harmonic analysis technology for advanced power quality monitoring. The ADE7880’s harmonic analysis generates magnitude and phase information, including current RMS, voltage RMS, active, reactive and apparent powers, power factor, harmonic distortion, and Total Harmonic Distortion plus Noise (THD+N) calculations.
The product delivers better than 1% percent accuracy over a dynamic range of 2000:1 up to the 63rd harmonic. With ADI’s proprietary ARTM harmonic analysis technology, the ADE7880 eliminates the requirment for custom development of digital signal processing and reduces the demands on the system microcontroller.
The key highlights are as followed: (1)Pin compatible with the ADE78xx high-accuracy energy metering IC devices designed for three-phase configurations; (2)ARTM automatically tracks changes in the fundamental frequency, which eliminates any effects of frequency drift on accuracy of the measurements; (3)For each harmonic, computes the voltage and current RMS, power factor, and active, reactive and apparent powers; (4)Computes THD+N ratio as well as harmonic distortion as a ratio of the fundamental; (5)Delivers active and reactive energy accuracy better than 0.2% over a dynamic range of 5000:1. Accuracy better than 0.1% is achieved over a dynamic range of 1000:1 with gain calibration only; (6)Incorporates seven sigma-delta ADCs, a digital integrator, voltage reference and all metrology signal processing. Suitable for class 0.2 meters.
The product is priced at $9.47 each in 1k quantities and evaluation board is $390. The sample is available now and full-volume production in November 2011.
