When users choose to use Micro USB connectors, they have a number of connector to select in horizontal PCB orientation which is ideal for handheld utilizations. The PCB is in parallel with the device, such as a mobile phone, and the I/O and battery connectors live at the ‘bottom’ of the device; µUSB, however, is popular in the market and used in many applications, the right angle construction does not fit everyone.
Global Connector Technology (GCT), a leading designer and manufacturer of standard and custom interconnect products, developed a vertical thru hole Micro USB connector in A/B configuration for a USB O-T-G (On the Go) application. O-T-G allows host functionality for peripherals, amongst other benefits. The company is the only one who supply vertical a thru-hole connector with A/B configuration.
The only one other vertical µUSB connector on the market today, with provided only as a B-type vertical, is produced with a bulky moulding designed for locking. Some customers seek this functionality, and the Japanese connector suits those requirements; however, other customers seek to use Micro USB because it is tiny; and sacrificing the extra space taken by our competitor’s moulding does not work for all customers.
