Vishay Intertechnology, Inc is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components. These components are used in virtually all types of electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, power supplies, and medical markets.

A new surface-mount Power Metal Strip resistor is released by this company at September1, 2011. This component is the industry’s first 4-terminal, 1 W current sensing resistor in the compact 0612 package size. A very low resistance range from 0.5 mΩ to 5 mΩ is provided by this new product.

With the small size, WSK0612 resistor is suitable to replace larger sensing resistors. The space on the circuit board can be saved; therefore, it is ideal to make the smaller and lighter products for the consumer. The WSK0612 aims to current sensing, voltage division, and pulse applications in DC/DC converters for computers, VRMs for laptops, Li-Ion battery safety and management, and LCD TVs; and electronic automotive systems, including engine controls, multi-media electronics, climate controls, and anti-lock brakes.

The proprietary techniques are applied in the process of manufacturing, which result in extremely low resistance values. The WSK0612 features a durable all-welded construction with a solid metal nickel-chrome or manganese-copper alloy resistive element with low TCR (< 20 ppm/°C).According to RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC, the resistor can provide high-temperature performance to + 170 °C and low thermal EMF of < 3 µV/°C. The quality of the sample is OK now. The mass production will be taken four to six weeks later.
