Freescale Semiconductor is one of the world wide top 20 semiconductor sales leaders. Headquarter of this company is located in Austin, Texas. It is the manufacturer of embedded hardware. 17 billion semiconductor chips of this company are used around the world. The company pays much attention to the automotive, consumer, industrial and networking markets. Its product portfolio includes microprocessors, microcontrollers, digital signal processors, digital signal controllers, sensors, RF power ICs and power management ICs. What is more, the software and development tools are offered by this company to enable complete solutions and to support product development.
The multi-core QorIQ processor is combined with the programmable in a “mobile basestation-on-chip” device by Freescale Semiconductor. The QorIQ Qonverge system-on-chip (SoC) devices are aimed at picocell and femtocell basestations, which are under the sample of this company. A processor for macro basestations will follow later this year. The move is expected to address to smaller, lower power 4G basestation designs by providing its established basestation processor as a scalable range of chips. The chips are on the same architecture that spans from small- to large-cell base stations.
Expert maintains that the innovative new solutions are badly needed by Freescale Semiconductor to address challenging power requirements and exploding demand for additional bandwidth. The scalability and software compatibility offered by this plan will give customers flexibility when they move up to larger capacity systems. Freescale’s first available QorIQ Qonverge processors are the PSC9130/31 femtocell SoCs (for eight to 16 simultaneous users) and PSC9132 picocell/enterprise SoC devices (for up to 64 simultaneous users). The processors support a range of air interfaces, such as LTE (FDD/TDD), WCDMA (HSPA+) WiMAX UMTS and CDMA.
The glueless RF and antenna interfaces are embedded in the devices, which will reduce the need for additional FPGAs. In a single device, the GPS synchronisation and 2G/3G sniffing is supported by the PSC913x family. The Power Architecture e500 MPU cores and programmable StarCore SC3850 digital signal processor (DSP) are also used by the chips. The dedicated baseband hardware acceleration engines, which can support LTE macrocell basestations, also can be used.
