With the licence with China-based system-on-chip (SoC) developer HiSilicon, ARM is trying to strengthen their position in 4G mobile basestation designs. HiSilicon has the good relationship with Huawei which is the China-based network infrastructure supplier; therefore, HiSilicon is a strategically important design partner for the Cambridge-based processor firm.
The ARM processors will be put into the centre of basestations in 3G and 4G mobile networks in China and other markets. ARM has increased its investment in China over the last five years, which could support and help the innovation of its important partners, such as HiSilicon. ARM has become the processor of choice for mobile handsets, and it begins to enter the new design areas, such as network infrastructure.
ARM has been cooperated with HiSilicon and Huawei for many years, so that a platform based on ARM technology can be developed by it. The cooperation with ARM over the years also helps HiSilicon to become a worldwide supplier of solutions for wireless and networking infrastructure and digital media.
With the agreement, HiSilicon gains the latest ARM IP, so that the customers’ needs can be met. ARM Cortex-A15 MPCore processor, ARM CoreLink CCI-400 Cache Coherent Interconnect fabric IP and the ARM Cortex-M3 processor are belonging to the latest license agreement. The SoC Company already has a licence for ARM Cortex-A9.
HiSilicon’s industry-first eight core ARM Cortex-A9 network SoC is successful, which is a good example of ARM Partner innovation. ASIC Design Center of Huawei Technologies is the former of HiSilicon Technologies. With her headquarter in Shenzhen of China, Hisilicon has set up design divisions in Beijing, Shanghai, Silicon Valley (USA) and Sweden. SoCs was also designed for network surveillance, videophone, DVB and IPTV.
