PROMISE’s First Thunderbolt-enabled Device Released

It is said that PROMISE Technology Inc. has unveiled its Pegasus line with high-performance hardware RAID storage systems. It is the first peripheral devices which use Intel’s Thunderbolt IO technology for data transfers among multiple devices and device types that use different protocols with a single cabling technology.

Intel’s Thunderbolt is developed in conjunction with Apple, which is an interconnect technology that provides a leap in performance over current I/O technologies with 10 Gbps of full-duplex bandwidth per channel. It features of concurrently supporting data (PCI Express) and display (DisplayPort) connections over a single cable.

Due to Thunderbolt technology high-speed I/O, Pegasus can transfer performance up to 864MB/s, which is more than 20 times faster than USB 2.0 and 12 times faster than FireWire 800, stated the company. It also added that Pegasus is offered as a 4-bay or 6-bay RAID enclosure supporting seven RAID modes including RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10. In addition, Pegasus has two Thunderbolt Technology ports, an aluminum enclosure and a smart fan for reduced system noise.

Pegasus hardware RAID solutions are available through the global network of PROMISE distributors and value added resellers and from the Apple Store MSRP for a 4-bay 4TB configuration is priced at $999, and a 6-bay 12TB is priced at $1,999.
