CCD is short for charge coupled device, which is a semiconductor pickup device. It has so many advantages, such as high sensitivity, anti-glare function, small volume, long service life and the resistance to shock. For the monitors, CCD is the core device, which is equivalent to the eyes of the
recorder.
The CCP chip can be divided into several kinds according to the color, resolution, sensitivity, and the size of target surface. Generally speaking, the large CCD chip has the large pixel Size. If it accept more light, the electric charge output by the pixel will be more, and the sensitivity will also increase. In the condition of weak illumination, it will have better effect. The quality of the entire machine will increase, and the picture will also become more nature, and vice versa. What is more, the small CCD has more pixel and higher resolution, which will make the light-sensing surface area of every Pixel become small.
Like the CCD, CMOS is the semiconductor that can record the change of light for the digital camera. The manufacturing technique of the CMOS has no difference with the common computer chip. It mainly uses silicon and germanium to form the semiconductor. N and P will exist on the CMOS at the same time, so the current produced by CMOS can be recorded by the processing chip. However, the CMOS always has the noise, because the frequent current change causes the overheat phenomenon in the beginning of the design. High quality is the advantage of CCD, but its manufacturing technology is very complicated. Only a few manufacturers can master the technology, so its cost is very high, especially for the large CCD.
With the same resolution, CMOS is cheaper than CCD, but its quality of picture is not better than CCD’s. As the low-end application, the CMOS sensor is always applied for some camera head. Low power consumption is one of the advantages of CMOS image sensor. CCD provides high-quality image, but it also costs more energy. It also needs the high voltage to gain the high transmitting effect. The related integrated circuit is SG2000EX24.
