In the ranking of the Global Information Technology Report 2010-2011, China climbed to the 36th position. This 10th anniversary edition was themed by Transformation 2.0 and aimed to explore the impact of the transformations on individuals, businesses and governments in the future. At the lead of the rankings were Sweden and Singapore, taking first and second position respectively. The Nordic countries and Asia Tigers developed rapidly in ICT technology. Finland jumped to third place followed by Switzerland and the United States in fourth and fifth place.
This report was mainly focused on transforming the human society in the next decade through modernization and innovation in ICT. China has made progress as leapfrogged 23 positions since 2006 and is one of the 10 most improved countries over five years. Chinese government has recognized how important ICT and innovation is for the development of the country. On June 17 and 18, Chinese mainland and Taiwan will hold the eighth forum on information technology and standards for the sectors. Innovation and ICT have played a vital role for long-term growth, with countless social and economic benefits and the capacity to significantly improve people’s life around the world.
Business is the industry that adopts new technology quicker than others. The use of ICT on whole is increasing rapidly but remains relatively low because of regional difference. ICT are used effectively in general business, regulatory and infrastructure environment by most prepared countries. ICT, especially the Internet part, have changed the world dramatically.
The report is a project under the World Economic Forum’s Center for Global Competitiveness and Performance and the Industry Partnership Program for Information Technology and Telecommunications Industries. It is finished by the collaboration between the World Economic Forum and the leading international business school INSEAD. This report contains detailed country profiles for the 138 economies featured in the study and provides a snapshot of each economy’s level of ICT penetration and usage. An extensive section of data tables for the 71 indicators used in the computation of the Index is also included. The related integrated circuit is MC3302.
