The report on wJS said that Apple Inc. sued Samsung Electronics Co. that Samsung’s Galaxy line of mobile phones and tablet "slavishly" copied Apple’s iPhone and iPad, which is regarded as increasing tensions of intellectual-property in the rapidly developing mobile market.
The lawsuit was filed Friday in the US District Court of Northern California claiming that Samsung copied the appearance, design packaging and user interface which violate its patents and trademarks.
Apple showed pictures to prove Samsung’s imitation in its 38-page suit. The products include iPhone 3GS model, released in June 2009, and Galaxy S i9000 model, released in March 2010. Apple added that it is clear Samsung did copy Apple’s technology, style and user interface for its smart phone and computer tablets. Apple also denounced Samsung’s behaviors indicating that it is a blatant copying. “Samsung’s development of core technologies and strengthening the intellectual property portfolio is key to continued success”, responded the spokesman of Samsung.
As we can see, this lawsuit shows sharp stakes in the smart phone and tablet markets. Apple’s iPhone has taken the most market share for several years, but it is gradually being took place by opponents’ mobile-devices that run on Google’s Android operating system. According to the research firm, IDC, the smart phone market is anticipated to have more than 49% growth in 2011 from 303.4 million units in 2010. With regard to tablets, Apple is going to dominate the market in 2015, along with sharp competition from other firms, expected by Gartner.
Samsung’s Galaxy S smart phone takes a considerable share in global market, shipping 10 million in January. It is a strong competitor for Apple in mobile device. The relation ship between Apple and Samsung seems to be more complex resulted from lawsuit. Alan Fisch, an attorney with Kaye Scholer LLP in Washington D.C., said that the suit will last for months. The related integrated circuit is HT772.
