Currently, the monitoring system is developing from the simulation system to the digitalized and intelligence system. The access method is also changing from the simulation medium to the optical fiber, twisted-pair wire. The transmission is a vital link in the monitoring system; therefore, choosing what kind of medium and device to control the signal is related to the quality and reliability of the entire system directly. The distance that covered by the system is more than thousands of kilometers, because the range of the monitoring application is becoming wider and wider. The image acquisition and transcoder devices, like decoder, network camera and the DVR, also put forward higher requirement of the access method. Therefore, how to implement the flexible access becomes the important question of the manufacturers and users.

The traditional mediums to transmit the video signal are coaxial cable, twisted-pair wire and optical fiber. First is the coaxial cable which has been used for a long time. The price is low, and its lay is very simple. But the distance is limited. In order to secure the quality of the video, its transmitting distance is from four hundred to five hundred meters. Second is the twisted-pair wire which has a wide application in the IP network monitoring. The twisted-pair wire can be used in anywhere have the IP network, but it has the same advantages and disadvantages with the coaxial cable. Last is the optical fiber which has so many advantages, such as the large capacity and anti-interference. An optical fiber is able to transmit all the signals of the monitoring system, and the transmitting distance can reach hundreds of kilometers. In the recent years, the technology of optical fiber is developing rapidly, and its price is reducing, therefore, the optical fiber is popularizing in the security field.

Actually, the different transmitting way means the different access method. The coaxial cable is still the main transmitting way of the simulation system. And the twisted-pair wire and optical fiber access mean the Ethernet or fiber access. The related integrated circuit is KSE13003.
