The competitive landscape of the LTT chip becomes very complicated all over the world. The manufacturers in the different camps are entering this industry. They all pay attention to this “large cake”. Because the some manufacturers of 2G chip are limited by some monopolistic factories, so they regard the LTE as the last stake to make a comeback. Apart form the traditional manufacturers; many large scale factories are making the BB/AP. The traditional personal computer chip magnates, such as Intel, nVidia, will also enter this market by purchasing the other companies. Currently, dozens of the factories will join in the market war, but few of them will win.
Experts maintain that the multimode and multi frequency will be the main trend in the future. The cell phone manufacturers hope that their products can be sold on a world wide scale; therefore, the LTE chip should be compatible with FDD, TDD and WCDMA/EVDO, and it should be able to support several frequencies. The manufacturers which can meet the demand will be very few. The largest challenge is the RFIC. Only four companies are capable to make the multimode and multi frequency. They are Intel?Qualcomm, ST-Ericsson and Fujitsu. They have the leading digital RFIC technology and the CMOSRF craft. They also have the high integrating ability.
The commercial history is very important for the companies in communication field. This is why Intel can purchase the IFX of INF. The RFIC of INF WCDMA was used earliest in the commercial area, and it is always in the leading place. Facing with these four magnets, VIA Technologies is also developing the multi mode and multi frequency, which is very necessary. Although there are dozens of companies are in the LTE baseband field, the VIA Technologies have the advantages. It adds the EVDO to the multi mode. The related integrated circuit is ZA5077.
