The LED market is very hot nowadays, and the sapphire substrate, which is in the upstream of industrial chain, becomes the focal point of different manufacturers. Its productivity will expand quickly. The shipment of sapphire substrate was 37.85 billion pieces in the end of 2010 all over the world, and the demand was 42.4 million pieces. In the year of 2011, the shipment of this product will be improved to 59 million pieces. Because many LED participations in Mainland China also produce the MOCVD machine, the demand of the substrate will be 72.1 million pieces. The supply is still short. Although the demand in the LED market is low, the scale of the entire market is growing continuously; therefore, the manufacturers of this product will keep expanding the productivity in the year of 2011.

According to the process of the LED base plate manufacturers, the monthly productivity of MBI was 600 thousand pieces in the year of 2010, and the monthly productivity will be one billion after the expanding the scale. The sapphire whisker has the high technical content and high gross profit, which also takes sixty percent of the base plate. Currently, the sapphire substrate manufacturers are trying to strengthen the content of sapphire whisker.

Take the Hejingung for example; the productivity of 2’’base plate was about 100 thousand pieces in the end of 2010, but it is very active to improve the content. Making the content from ten percent to fifty percent is its goal. Participants maintain that the yield rate of LED epitaxial is not high in the first quarter of this year. Recently, the price of sapphire substrate is stable, but it will face the pressure of price reduction in the future.

From the long term, no matter the LED television or LED illumination, the LED market will enter the livelihood of the people. In order to be accepted by the customers, the tendency of price reduction will not change. Cost management will be the main problem of the manufacturers. Moreover, the elements of technique, brand, business relations and industrial application will decide the competitiveness of the factories. The related integrated circuit is JW100A.
