The integrated circuit was first invented in the 1950s, and since then it has become an indispensable key to promote the development of technology. From the very beginning, integrated circuits have widely been used to modern society in every respect. Integrated circuits make great contributions to our common day activities and even world changing events. The technology is becoming more efficient thanks to integrated circuit and makes more professionals such as scientists, engineers, researchers start to discuss the benefits brought by the integrated circuit as well as what it will creat in the future.
The world’s first integrated circuit was made by Texas Instruments. Before that, there were some improvements in electronics like placing many electronic components on a single chip, but the process needed a long time, and its reliability was not high enough. Then one man discovered that all the components could be created and put together as one mass under the condition of using the same semiconductor material silicon. As a result, a working integrated circuit was made and it was not used until many years later in a military operation. Given the chip the global exposure it needed to take off.
As the chip becomes more popular, many people see its potential benefit and began to applied the integrated circuit to all the electronics. Integrated circuit makes desktop and handheld size become possible. The chip in the first handheld calculator was also invented byTexas Instruments. The chip witnessed great changes in computers, machinery, manufacturing, transportation, even astronomy, almost all the industries in the world. It is no exaggeration that integrated circuits creats a digital revolution that have changed human being.
SSI, small scale integration, refers to integrated circuit that incorporates only few transistors on a chip. LSI, large scale integration, means integrated circuit that contains thousands even millions of transistors on one chip. According to a law created by Intel, the number of transistors incorporated into an integrated circuit doubles every two years with performance and speed goes up, while cost per unit goes down. There is a standard to the amount of functionality that can be achieved, which leads to fierce competition in the market to create efficient and fast chips.
Chips faster and specific for computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices are what researchers and scientists pursuing. The integrated circuits allow computers to do more and technology to advance. We can’s imagine what life like with out integrated circuit. The related integrated circuit is LM592.
