Intel is still in the leading position of global microprocessor in 2010 with up to 81% market share, said in the report of a market research company, iSuppli.
The report said in 2010, the revenue of global microprocessor increased by 25% with $40 billion after a period of downtrend with 6%. Intel accounted the share for 81% increased 0.4 percentage points when compared to 2009 with 80.6%. The following one is AMD whose market share was 11.4% dropping 0.8 percentage points when compared to 2009 with 12.2%. As far as we can see, Intel’s domination position is pretty entrenched.
The chief analyst of iSuppli, Matthew Wilkins, claimed that a great change has occurred in microprocessor market in 2010. Suppliers are facing more and more challenges brought by resurgence of media tablet PC and emerging of integrated graphics processor.
Microprocessor has simulated many industries. But Intel and AMD still lead the CPU industry. The have been in competition in this area for 20 years. As a matter of fact, AMD has further way to go if it wants to catch up with Intel.
The output of media tablet PC is expected to reach 240 million and most of them will be contributed by iPad, according to iSuppli. By 2015, the production volume of panel computer is anticipated to be more than 2.4 million. It may be a significant chance for Samsung for most panel computers use x86 processors. As for Intel and AMD who are two major giants, it is also a great opportunity.
The market share of global microprocessor did not show much difference in the 4Q 2010. Intel occupied 81.5% with 0.5% increase compared to the same period of last year and with 0.7% increase compared to the 3Q 2010. On contrary, AMD accounted for 10.9% in 4Q 2010 with 0.5% drop compared to the 3Q 2010 and 1.3% drop compared to the same period of last year. The related integrated circuit is IT600-S.
