What’s going to happen in 2011? According to UL, some major advances will take place in terms of smarter Internet devices and great development in the emerging technologies. First of all is the tablet device, which had a grand start with the release of Motorola Xoom, the BlackBerry Playbook, and the Apple iPad 2. They are just the preview, and more surprises will arrive from Dell, HP, Toshiba and Acer. Microsoft may reveal touch optimzed Windows OS for tablets by the middle of 2011, but the most expected one will be the Palm OS on HP Palmpads. With these new tablets, it seems quite possible to drop the price. At the same time, the screen will be improved rapidly, probably more OLED adoption. Other aspects like processor speed, storage space will also optimized.
Secondly is the sustainability, sustainable product mean that the product should designed to be environmental friendly, which need to incorporate life cycle assessments and address the potential environmental impacts. Companies must focus more on the practice instead of just on the products.
Thirdly is the Smart Grid, with the growing population and the latest electronic devices such as wireless phones, high-definition televisions and electric vehicles, the energy consumption increased rapidly. The electric infrastructure is trying a more reliable and efficient grid--the Smart Grid currently.
Next is about 3D, more and more eras will use 3D technology. 3D games, 3D televisions, 3D channels and 3D smartphones. But the center will shift to the content. Fifth is the speed of bandwidth. In 2011, it can get to 4G and that means 10 times faster than 3G networks we are using now.
Except for technologies mentioned above, I’m sure there will some surprises waiting us in the future. The related integrated circuit is KDS122, a kind of lowest component count, energy-efficient off-line switcher IC that can be used in wide range of applications like timers, applicances, LED drivers and industrial controls. This device is specifically designed to replace all linear and capacitor-fed non-isolated power supplies in the under 360 mA out put current range.
