Gartner: Tablet Causes Slowdown for PC Growth

The growth of PC volume is predicted to be lower than expectation mainly resulted from favor for Apple’s iPad and other tablet devices, said the report of Gartner, a market research firm.

According to the report of Gartner, the global shipment of PC is 387.8 million this year which is of 10.5 percent increase and lower than expectation of 15.9 percent. Gartner considers that the main reason for shipment to decline is softening demand for laptop.

In addition, Gartner also took factors of causing China PC sales slipped into account in its reconsideration. In past five years, laptop and simple-type netbook are the main impetus for global PC market. At present, however, users used to use laptop and netbook for surfing online or sending e-mails have turned to tablets PC and some laptop owners even prolong lifetime of PC products instead of buying a new one.

“We anticipate that consumers’ growing passion for PC alternatives such as iPad or other media tablets will bring serious influence on household PC sales and this is much obviously in mature market,” said the director of Gartner, George Shiffler.

By 2012, global PC volume will reach 440.6 million which is 13.6 percent growth compared to 2011 lower than expectation of 14.8 percent.

With regard to the battle tablet VS PC, Tim Cook said to analysts of Sanford C. Bernstein & Co last week that tablet PC sales will surpass PC eventually and growth of tablet will scarify netbook of lower price and less functions.

Apple announced a new ipad tablet which adopts dual-core processor and much lighter, thinner and faster. The price is 499-829 dollars depending on various models.

Many firms have released new self-owned tablet PC. For instance, Motorola released Xoom last month and so did Samsung’s Galaxy Tab. RIM and Hewlett Packard are also planning to release new tablet.

According to the report of consult company PRTM that presently there are total 106 new tablet PCs from 64 manufacturers on the market or under development. The related integrated circuit is 1N60.
