Gartner, a market research firm, announced to lower predicting growth rate of global PC shipment from 15.9 percent to 10.5 percent this year and from 14.8 percent to 13.6 percent next year.
According to Gartner, global shipment of PC will be affected by softening demand for consumer mobile PC. In addition, prevailing of alternate device such as iPad will have negative impact on PC. It is anticipated that global PC shipment this year will be 387.8 million increasing 10.5 percent which is lower than previous anticipation 15.9 percent. Next year, it is forecasted to be 440.6 million with 13.6 increases which is also lower than before with 14.8 percent.
Ranjit Atwal, an analyst of Gartner, said that the result shows that recently PC volume has been affected by softening demand for consumer PC. In addition, China mobile PC market has come into a state of sluggish so does consumers’ passion towards mobile PC.
Gartner believe that consumer mobile PC was one of major impetus to stimulate PC market growing at an annual average rate of 40 percent over the past five years. At that time, mobile PC is the preferred platform to bring Internet in consumer’s life. However, due to prevailing of inexpensive embedded Wi-Fi block, users can get on the Internet through various mobile devices instead of mobile PC at the moment.
George Shiffler, an analyst of Gartner said, “consumers’ ever-growing passion to iPad or other tablet PC declines market demand for mobile PC, especially in a mature market,” “we were used to thinking that consumers will buy their second, third PC to promote sales growth, but we now figure out that they probably will not buy new PCs even prolong PCs’ life span or regard tablet PC and other alternate products as preferred mobile devices. During 2011 to 2015, the annual average growth rate of household mobile PC will be below 10 %.The related integrated circuit is LNK305GN.
