2010 The Shipment of Servers Increased by 17％

According to the report of foreign media, the market research firm Gartner shows that the shipment of global servers increased by 17 percent in 2010 with 13 percent profit growth. The shipment in the fourth quarter up 6.5 percent on last year’s same period with profit a rise of 16.4 percent.

The vice-president of Gartner Jeffrey Hewitt said that the depressed x86 has generated strong growth across the world last year.

At the end of 2009, Intel and AMD corp. released a generation of processor which promoted the upgrading of servers while during the economic crisis of 2009, it had remained stagnant. Despite of softening demand for RISC/ Itanium UNIX platform, the growth of Blade Server in x86 field and Skinless processor has generated strong increase for sales in 2010. In addition, IBM’s new mainframe platform has also contributed to its growth in this area.

In terms of geographical range, all regions had increase in revenue except Japan; the top three regions are North-America with 24.4%, Asia-Pacific region with 22.4% and Latin America with 12.3%. But Japan slipped 4.4 percent.

The revenue of the fourth quarter in 2010 showed that IBM led the worldwide server market growth. Its market share of global server in fourth quarter was 35.5 percent which increased by 2.8 percent on previous year’s same period.

Due to impulse of System Z and System X, IBM got a two-digital growth in the fourth quarter of 2010, and so do Hewlett-Packard and Dell.

In terms of shipment of servers, Hewlett-Packard made a significant achievement in the fourth quarter which was 6.9 percent increase on last year’s same period.

In 2010, the global servers market had rebound to 16.8 percent increase for shipment and reached 13.2 percent growth for revenue. Blade Servers got 29.5 percent increase for revenue all the year around and the shipment grew 12.6 percent.

It was predicted that the market of servers will continuously growing but its growth will much slow down resulted from x86 server had reached its highest level in 2010. The related integrated circuit is KSZ8873MLL.
