In the automotive electronic field, connection is increasing quickly nowadays. This will drive more applications of the semiconductor, especially the Bluetooth and Near Field Communication. These two wireless technologies are oriented to the connection. They have both similarities and difference, which decide their using methods in the car.
Near Field communication, which is developed by Philips, is a connecting technique. It allows the devices connect with each other in the distance between four inches to eight inches. The high speed, simple operation and the safety make this technique suitable for the communications which emphasize the safety, such as currency trading, personal date gathering, information transformation and ticket.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are the diversified wireless technologies, which are applied from the cell phone to tablet computer. These wide applications of these devices make the Bluetooth become the prior choice of automotive integration. The information and entertainment system, which strengthens the consumption and movable device, is becoming an obvious trend. In the year of 2009, ninety-three percent of the cars in American provided the Bluetooth. Many of them even make it as the standard. General Motors began to tie the Bluetooth with OnStar. OnStar is the standard of many General Motors. Data shows that the utilization rate of Bluetooth is twenty-four percent all over the world, and this ratio will increase to fifty-nine percent in 2017. It is now clear that the Bluetooth becomes the standard of connection in the car. Meanwhile, there are also the new data connection techniques to replace the Bluetooth. They are developed for the music, short message and basic controlling function provided by the smart phone.
Compared with the Bluetooth, safety is the largest advantage of the Near Field Communication. But its available distance is limited. These two techniques are complementary with each other in the car. The related integrated circuit is HMBT2222A.
