MCP1754/MCP1754S LDOs Released by Microchip

MCP1754/MCP1754S are the low dropout regulators released by Microchip Technology Inc. recently, which feature a maximum output current of 150 mA at +125ºC junction temperature and a high PSRR of 70 dB at 1 kHz.

The MCP1754/MCP1754S is a high PSRR voltage regulator with short circuit current foldback and offers a high input voltage of 16V and an output voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V, with standard output voltages of 2V, 2.5V, 2.8V, 3V, 3.3V, 4V and 5V, and output voltage tolerances of ±2.0 percent over the entire temperature range. The MCP1754 provides enhanced features, such as a shutdown input signal and a power-good output signal, while the MCP1754S is the baseline version of the low dropout regulators.





The input operating voltage range is specified from 3.6V to 16V continuous, 18V absolute maximum, making it ideal for automotive and commercial 12 VDC systems. The MCP1754/ MCP1754S typically delivers 80 dB of ripple rejection at 1 kHz, making the device ideal for AC sensitive applications like GFCI and AFCI circuit breaker designs. The Current Foldback feature is a true short circuit current foldback. The device current will fall back towards 10 mA under short circuit conditions. When the short is removed, the device will recover and continue operating.

The MCP1754/MCP1754S are available in 8-lead 2 mm x 3 mm DFN packages, for $0.47 each and in 5-lead SOT-223 and 3-lead SOT-223 packages, for $0.47 each, all in 10,000-unit quantities, and they are also available in 5-pin SOT-23, 3-lead SOT-23a and 3-lead SOT-89 packages, for $.042 each in 10,000-unit quantities.

The device has a wide range of output-voltage options, makes its design more flexible, and it is small in package size, which takes up less space on the board while reduces the cost.
