The solar inverter firm Enecsys, which is based on Cambridge, has released its new power architecture. This new power architecture is fixed to the back of solar panels, thus 240V 50Hz can be produced. This is called micro-inverters which is different form larger remote. Larger remote takes power from a string of solar panels. The electrolytic capacitors are eliminated by this new product. If it contains the electrolytic capacitors, its service life will be shorter than expected. Without the electrolytic capacitors, the service life of this product can be 200,000 hours at 85°C and rated voltage.
Experts maintain that it is the configuration of the three stages. It has not been done by others. The boost converter is the first stage, which produces a DC link voltage of up to 600V. The second stage is a current output buck converter which is tolerant of up to 120V of ripple on its input. 600V DC link is connected with the main energy reservoir capacitor. The high voltage plus the ripple tolerance of the second stage at 600V DC link; therefore, only 30µF is needed to deliver 240W at the output. A bridge switch is the third stage, which flips the polarity of every second cosine pulse to produce a 50Hz sine wave.
Opto-isolators is the next dangerous component for MTBF. The galvanic safety isolation is offered to eliminate this element. The half-bridge is used by the stage, because it has so many advantages, such as efficiency, simplicity. It also makes the users to us to use zero-voltage switching for low losses possible.
The second stage provides the all-important maximum power point tracking (MPPT) which extracts the most from a solar panel under varying lighting and temperature conditions. In this case the significant ripple on the capacitor, the voltage and current passing measurement of MPPT can be replaced by the rate-of-change-of-voltage across the capacitor; therefore, it becomes more convenient.
