The recent NCN1188 of ON Semiconductor Corporation is supposed to be the industry’s first 3:1 high speed USB switch is capable of supporting the new Mobile High Definition Link interface standard for digital audio and High Definition video.
The switch enables portable consumer electronics like smartphones and cameras to connect with HD televisions by the supporting of integrated MHLTM. Two dedicated high-speed data paths can handles HD video transfer up to 720 progressive scan at 60 frames per second (fps) and 1080 interlaced at 30 fps. A multi-purpose audio path with true-ground capability down to -2V can support generic micro-USB headset.
To transmitting and receiving paired signals from up to three separate locations, the NCN1188 device makes modern portable equipment share a single Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 or USB 3.0 receptacle. Each channel is fully compliant with the USB 2.0 (high speed), USB 1.1 (full speed) and USB 1.0 (low speed) standard, as well as any generic universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART) protocol.
The NCN1188 can be supplied from a single Li-Ion battery or any protected 5V rail when the current is just 23μA and when the operating voltage is between 2.7V and 5.5V. The typical capacitance and typical off capacitance of the device is 4.5 pF and 3 pF respectively with an operating junction temperature range of -40℃ to 125℃.
The NCN1188 is in a 12-pin, ultra low profile, pb-free, 2.0mm×1.7mm×0.5mm UQFN package and priced at $0.45 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities.
