An Industry-Leading IC PLL released by ADI

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) announced that as for wireless communication systems, its new PLL (phase-locked loop) synthesizer can be regarded as the industry’s best combination of integration, performance, flexibility and the widest continuous frequency-range coverage for a single RF device. The ADF4351 contains a high-performance, on-chip VCO (voltage-controlled oscillator) and supports dual output ports. And it enables implementation of fractional-N or integer-N operation continuously across 35 MHz to 4400 MHz.

The ADF4351 PLL is programmable divide-by-1/2/4/8/16/32/64 circuits, and allows the user to produce an RF output frequency anywhere between 35 MHz and 4400 MHz. The RF output stage can be muted when isolation is required for applications. The mute function is both pin- and software-controllable. What’s more, it is through 3-wire interface to control all of the on-chip registers. The ADF4351 PLL is used with a power supply ranging from 3.0 V to 3.6 V and can be powered down when not in use.

The key features of ADF4351 PLL are as followed: 1) RMS jitter of 0.3 ps typ; typical EVM of 0.4% at 2.1GHz. 2) Programmable dual-modulus prescaler of 4/5 or 8/9; programmable output power level, dual output ports, integer-N or fractional-N operation. 3) Analog and digital lock detects. 4) Switched bandwidth fast-lock mode. 5) Cycle slip reduction.

The price of ADF4351 PLL each in 1,000 unit quantities is $11.13. Sampling is available now, and the volume production can be in the fall.
