NXP Semiconductors N.V.(Nasdaq: NXP)published PC1788 microprocessor several days ago. This is the fist time to adopt ARM® Cortex™-M3 technology and with LCD controller MCU integrated. The products have been on the market. LPC178x series have the highest 96kb on-chip SRAM and 32 bits external memory interface to achieve the purpose of low-cost and high-quality picture application. What’s more, LPC178x series support many image display panel, so it is the ideal option for industrial automation, commercial networks and medical diagnostic applications.
The marketing director of NXP said that the latest human-machine interface is now adopted in more LCD display technology areas including industry, retail and medical areas. The integrated LCD controller LPC178x Cortex-M3 microprocessor is very competitive in price offering low-cost solutions for embedded system design fellows, and thus fulfills the wish of charming animations added in TFT display.
LCD interface had own DMA controller, so it does not rely on CPU or other system functions during operating. The build-in FIFO can be used as buffer for data displaying, and due to its timing sequence flexibility, its hard pointer support can further reduce the CPU time required by displaying. In addition, NXP’s LPC178x microprocessor also supports STN and thin-film TFT image display panel. The pixel can be up to 1024×768, and meantime, it supports monochrome and highest 24 bits true color.
120MH LPC178x microprocessor supports 512kb flash memory, 96KB SRAM and 4KB EEPROM。32 bits external storage controller supports SDRAM, NOR and SRAM devices offering four chip options. In addition, LPC178x and LPC177x series still support more other external devices including an usb core, a devices controller, a 10/100T Ethernet controller, temper event recorder, 8-channel general DMA(GPDMA)controller, 12 bits ADC, 10 bits DAC, motor control PWM and quadrature encoder interface, five pieces of UART, three pieces of I2C, I2S, 12 bits SSP/SPI, smart card interface, 4 timing counters, window watchdog timer, a ULP RTC and 165, at the most, general I/O pins.
NXP low-cost developing tool and platform supports LPC178x and LPC177x. Its microprocessor supports IAR, Embedded Artists and Future Designs and other leading integrated hardware development tools including LPCXpresso, ARM/Keil, Code Red, IAR、Segger, MicroDigital, I2ST,etc.. The related integrated circuit is KDS193.
