Global Lighting Technologies has incorporated its technology of edge-lit guide to extensive Far East mass production capable of creating an improved troffer downlight that is more efficient, brighter and offering four different color temperature with less LEDs.
This new troffer down light assembly, which represents a decrease of approximately 70% from previous versions, is edge-lit using only 100 LEDs. Along each of two sides of the troffer assembly against the ultra-slim light guide there spaced 50 LEDs. With advanced light extraction features, this device can spread light across the troffer surface with perfect uniformity for bright. Power consumption is only 40W and the new troffer offers a high color rendering index of higher than 80.
The color temperature range should be between 3000K (warm white) and 6000-6500K(cool, bluish white). According to experience, with traditional fluorescent tube technology illuminating this kind of ceiling light would have resulted in an assembly up to 5 inches thick. GLT’s edge-lighting technology proviceds lights that are much slimmer, more lightweight, higher intensity backlight with a long lifetime of 30.000 hours. GLT brings the advantages of mass production to a product with four production facilities in China and Taiwan to manufacture products in thousands with no differentiation from piece to piece unlike the past expensive one-off where the light guide has had to be manufactured for each troffer.
The edge-lit downlight is an environmentally friendly solution as LED contains no mercury. It also requires less maintenance and power consumption. When compared to a direct backlighting approach using LED arrays, this device minimizes thermal management issues as well as the number of LEDs required for efficient, uniform light dispersion.
GLT specializes in focusing the light from white LEDs and extracting this light in a highly efficient and uniform manner. This technologies enables the brightest, most uniform light with the highest efficiency-and lowest part count-possible. The related integrated circuit is MC3302N.
