As we can see, there are more and more leading foundries come into bloom. It is reported by Gartner Inc. that the foundry market is driving aggressive fab expansion plans, which will result in an oversupply situation in the foundry market by late 2011 or early 2012. The fab capacity was over increased by Samsung TSMC, Globalfoundries and UMC.
Most firms including HSBC agree that the detailed analysis of the foundry wafer capacity of TSMC, Globalfoundries, Samsung and UMC have been conducted by IBS. The result shows that H2/2011, H2/2012 and even 2013 will witness a large overcapacity, said Handel Jones, president of IBS. He also added in the e-mail that companies are trying to gain high market share and being overly optimistic regarding total demand, but demand growth is more gradual in fact; the companies will suffer great losses by large overcapacity in the end.
The total demand for wafers will hit 127,000 per month in the second half of 2011, reported IBS. But according to firms, the capacity will reach 262,000 per month at that time including 45/40-nm, 32/28-nm and 22/20-nm technologies.
With regard to 45-/40-nm technology alone, there will be a demand for a total 109,000 wafers per month in the second half of 2011, said in the report of IBS. But according to firms, the demand capacity of wafers will reach 145,000 per month at that time.
With regard to 32-/28-nm technology, the demand for wafers will hit 18,000 per month in the second half of 2011, said IBS. But according to firms, the capacity of wafer will be 100,000 per month at that time.
With regard to 22-/20-nm technology, the demand for wafers will be zero, according to IBS. But according to the firms, the capacity of wafers will reach 17,000 per month at that time. The related integrated circuit is IT8702F.
