Japanese Quake Accuses Monitor Panel Rise in Price

According to the latest price list by market research institution Display Search, from late March this year, the quotation of monitor panel will increase slightly by impact of earthquake in Japan. The quoted price of 18.5 and 20 inches monitor panel has increased one dollar with 2 percent growth and NB panel’s price was equal to the previous months.

Display Search said that the OEM production volume in the first two month this year was lower than expectation by reason of talent shortage and components supply interruption in mainland. In consideration of softening demand in the second quarter, some brand-leading manufacturers of monitors started to consider covering inventory while some others take wait-and-see attitude towards it.

With regard to panel supply, suppliers are in firm attitude toward monitors in price rise, especially when gross profit of some panels in very low level. Display Search also said that the main factor of price increase was supply chain crisis of ACF (anisotropic conductive films) which is crucial materials for panel caused by earthquake.

Presently, the price of monitor has been in negotiation among manufacturers and OEM firms. But as 18.5 inches and 20 inches panels in tight spot, the price is going up.

With regard to monitor quotation in late March this year, 18.5 inches was $55 /pc, increased one dollar with 2 percent rise; 20 inches panel quoted $62, increased one dollar with 2 percent rise. Others were equal to the previous quotation including 17 inches with 57$, 19 inches with $60, 21.5 inches widescreen with $74 and 21.5 inches LED widescreen with $79.

Display Search indicated that under the impact of Japanese earthquake, the NB industry was expected to rebound but by reason of a long downturn, the impact on NB industry is still in uncertainty. The related integrated circuit is HT772.
