China’s LED Industry Needs Big International Enterprises

As we known, China’s LED industry is going through a great development by the stimulation of application. However, there is no denying that lacking of core technology is the biggest problem for LED industry development. Some core technology is monopolized by a few foreign companies and protected as patent for long time so that China’s LED technology is always in the passive position of development. What’s more, some factors like small in scale, lack of key raw material and talent shortage limit the growth of LED industry. As a result, it was suggested by specialist that government should make strategies to support LED. Meantime, LED corporations should build competitive strength to become a large-scale international LED enterprise by their own.

China’s firms are weak in the field of core technology at the moment. LED has a long industry chain including extension industry, chip, package, application and so forth. Many clients choose products from some brand-leading companies in the practical application for some big projects. For one thing, their products possess intellectual property but some domestic firms don’t. For another, we have to admit that China’s products are not able to serve some needs sometimes. As a result, China must attach great importance to core technology and intellectual property. Enterprises should increase the investment in technology and government should give policy and finance support for LED industry.

As far as industry scale concerned, China’s enterprises are featured as large quantity while small scale including extension industry, chip, package and application products, which cause enterprises lacking of the capability of R&D and the level of products much lower and less competitive.

With regard to facility and raw material, at present, the key materials like sapphire, MO source, arsine and phosphorane all count on importing and so does the key facility MOCVD which is paid for high price.

In addition, with the rapid development of semiconductor lighting industry, the construction of related standards and monitoring system can not cater to the need of industry development and application. Intellectual property service platform and the third-part product testing agency should be established as soon as possible. The related integrated circuit is EB45-P.
