Cartner, the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company, published its preliminary statistics a few days ago that leading brand companies are still the significant clients for semiconductor market. In 2010, the total consumption hit 104.3 billion dollars in TAM (Total Available Market) of semiconductor design, which is over one third worldwide chip revenue and increases 26.3 billion dollars by 33.7% when compared to the year of 2009.
In 2009, the top 10 semiconductor clients rank in sequential as HP, Samsung, Apple, Nokia, Dell, Sony, Toshiba, LG, Panasonic and Lenovo in which 8 still remain top 10 in 2010. The total demand for semiconductor by top 10 clients accounts for 1/3 of the entire semiconductor industry. In the sight of region, 3 companies are from US, Asia-Pacific and Japan respectively, one from Europe, Middle East and Africa region respectively.
In 2010, the market was mainly pushed by mobile PC, Smartphone and LCD TV. Taking the advantages of strong demand for mobile PC, the TAM of HP, Apple, Dell and Lenovo largely increased. Samsung succeeded in riding the trend of the Smartphone boom; Nokia got in trouble; Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic benefited from flat-panel televisions, which helped to accelerate the pace of TAM growth.
Apple led the new type of competition in the field of IT and electronic industry. As a new pattern of vertical integrated corporation, Apple provides software, hardware and service with regard to PC, Smartphone, Portable Media Player and Media Tablets and outsources the production to electronics manufacturing service (EMS) providers. TV service platform market will be the main growth section in future years, predicted by Cartner.
On the basis of TAM, four of top 10 purchasers are professional manufacturers. With more and more leading brand companies outsources the production to ODMs and EMS providers, they will win more and more orders. The related integrated circuit is T-13450.
