In almost circuits today, transistors can be seen everywhere and they are the basic in integrated circuits. A transistor is made of semiconductor material and its outlook varies according its shapes and sizes. It is the most important device in electronic circuits and almost every circuit needs it.
The construction of a transistor is like that of a diode. It consisted of three layers. The different layouts have decided the types of all the transistors. There are mainly two types: the P type and the N type. Take P type for example, it is the one with P type in the middle and N layer in each side. The part in the center is called base, one on the side is called emitter and the other side is known as the collector.
A transistor is mainly used to regulate the current flowing through it. Current from the power source enters the emitter, during several processes, the small current will be changed into a relatively large one. That is why the transistor is usually used in amplifiers. Besides, it can also be used as a switch.
The three leads of a transistor must be connected correctly when you use it. Once being put in the wrong direction, the current can not flow smoothly, as a result, the transistor will be instantly damaged because of the sudden large current.
With the fast development of integrated circuits, the size and weight are becoming smaller and smaller. Therefore, some transistors are not small enough to be put into the circuits, but for those people who are fascinated in doing some models, they are necessary. It is the amplifying ability that make transistors widely used in many fields. The future of it will be promising and industries related to it will also be boosted. The good example of one type is:2N3055.
